What a Solar Panel Bird Guard Is

A bird guard for solar panels is a physical barrier fitted around the edge of the array that stops birds getting into the gap beneath the panels to nest. In practice, the most effective form of bird guard is a continuous strip of stainless steel mesh, bent to follow the edge of the array and fixed to the panel frame.

How a Mesh Bird Guard Is Fitted

The guard is cut to length for your array on site, bent to the correct angle to follow the roof edge, and fixed to the underside lip of the panel frame using specialist clips. There is no drilling and no contact with the roof surface — so neither your panel warranty nor your roof warranty is affected.

The full perimeter is sealed, including the awkward areas behind chimneys, at corners, and where the array meets a roof valley. A bird guard only works if there are no gaps, so we close every edge.

If birds have already nested, a guard on its own is not enough — and fitting one over an active nest is inhumane. We clear the gap of nesting material, droppings and debris first, then fit the guard so the area is clean and sealed. A guard fitted over a clean, empty gap is a permanent fix.
